Hubby and I try to have a date night at least once a month. Usually we end up going out to dinner or the movies, but money is getting tight. That’s why I came up with these 22 at home date night ideas. I love that these ideas can be a date for just the two of you or a whole family affair.
This is my hubby’s favorite. Before he moved in, he use to come over a few times a month for a campfire. We would sit outside, have a few drinks, and dance around the fire like no one was watching. Oh…and listen to our crazy neighbor talk to himself out in the garage.
2. Cook Dinner Together
Find a recipe that you both can fix together. My hubby isn’t much of a cook, but I would LOVE to see him cook something with me.
I made my hubby, before he was hubby, come over and help me garden. It was such a fun day. We got all dirty and sweaty as we flirted away over the flowers. We ended the night with pizza and beer on the back porch overlooking our hard work.
4. Play a Game
We love playing Yatzee. Hubby gets all cute when he’s frustrated and starts cussing at the dice.
5. Take a Bubble Bath Together
Light some candles and enjoy!
and start a flour war 😉
7. Take a Walk Down Memory Lane
Pull out the old albums and your wedding pictures. Tell stories as you look through the old pictures.
8. Throw a Cocktail Party
You don’t have to leave home, but you get others to come over! I use to throw cocktail parties all the time just so I could dress up in fancy clothes. I’d make everyone else dress up. To keep costs low, I’d ask everyone to bring a signature drink.
9. Go on a Walk
Wait until the stars are out and head down the road for a romantic moon lit walk. Explore nature at night.
Open up that Pinterest board and show him what you’ve been pinning…well maybe not EVERYTHING you pinned. You don’t want him to think you live on Pinterest. Choose one to create together.
11. Make an Ice Cream Sundae
Switch it up and create an ice cream sundae for each other. Does he remember your favorite topping?
12. Take a Virtual Vacation
Do some research on a place you’ve always wanted to visit and recreate it at home. Cook an authentic meal and signature drink for that area.
13. Play Name That Treat
Blind fold and feed each other treats to see if they can guess what it is. Yum! I’m thinking chocolate covered strawberries!
14. Video Game Marathon
This would make hubby the happiest man alive!
15. Star Gaze
Take a blanket, bottle of wine, and dessert outside to watch the stars.
16. Play Minute to Win It
Create minute to win in games and let the challenge begin!
17. Sing Karaoke
My favorite! I love to sing, but usually just sing to myself in front of my computer. YouTube has a plethora of karaoke videos. Sing loud so the neighbors can hear that beautiful voice.
18. Nurf Gun Fight
Or in the case of my husband, a lightsaber fight. We bought these lightsabers. They fold up and come in different colors. Hubby, Sicily, and I each have a different color.
19. Fondue Night
You can find some yummy fondue recipes on Pinterest. Create and enjoy!
20. Paint Night
Paint night is all the rage in my town lately, but I really don’t want to spend an outrageous amount of money just to paint. Buy some fingerpaint paper, tempera paints, and paint brushes. You may want to get washable paint. I can’t see this getting messy.
21. Backyard Picnic
Hubby and I like to sit on the back porch eating dinner and drinking beer.
22. Water Fight
Oh that hose is just sitting right there. Maybe I should test it out 😉
Dates don’t have to be expensive. Create your perfect date at home. As long as you are enjoying each other’s company, it shouldn’t matter what you are doing.
